Drone survey in Greater Manchester
At Manchester Drone Surveys, we recently completed a detailed aerial roof inspection on a semi-detached property in Reddish, Stockport - and what we discovered highlights exactly why drone surveys are such a valuable tool for homeowners and contractors alike.
Why the Survey Was Needed
The homeowner had some concerns about potential leaks and the overall state of their roof. Traditional roof inspections can be expensive, time-consuming, and even dangerous - especially when scaffolding or ladders are involved. Our drone service offers a safer, quicker, and more cost-effective alternative.
What We Found
Using our high-resolution aerial imaging drone, we were able to identify several serious issues from above:
❌ Poor-Quality Chimney Repairs: Despite evidence of recent repair work, both chimneys showed signs of deterioration. Mortar was crumbling, and the lead flashing appeared to have been poorly applied.
⚠️ Inadequate Lead Flashing: Installed without proper overlap or sealing, the flashing posed a significant risk of water ingress. It also failed to meet Lead Association guidelines.
⚠️ Cracked Roof Tiles: Multiple roof tiles were visibly cracked or damaged, further increasing the risk of leaks.
⚠️ Exposed Soil Vent Pipe: The roof also featured a soil vent pipe with no protective bird guard, leaving it vulnerable to blockage or nesting.
⚠️ Exposed Nail Holes in tiles: The flashing around Velux roof windows was not covering over the nail holes of the tiles in front of them, allowing water ingress.
The Benefits of Drone Roof Inspections
All of these issues were identified without anyone setting foot on the roof. Drone inspections reduce the risk of accidents, lower costs by avoiding scaffolding, and provide an impartial, third-party perspective that both homeowners and tradespeople can trust.
Supporting Property Owners and Contractors
Our role doesn’t stop at detection. We provide clients with detailed imagery and reports that they can use to:
- Understand the true condition of their roof
- Make informed maintenance decisions
- Share findings with contractors for accurate quoting and repair planning
